DK1RF: QRV IN RTTY SINCE 4 WEEKS;FIRST CONTEST; SUPERB AND NOT THE LAST ONE... 8mtr. LANGDRAHT VERTIKAL
DL4RCK: Propagation was poor this weekend and I couldn't work any JA's from my location here. I really enjoyed the little pileups. Special thanks to all who were kind enough to work me.
DL5CE: hat Spass gemacht! vy73!
DL6JZ: Thank you for this nice weekend. I like the 24 hours contests: I don't have to make the decision about the right placing of the break times. The participation was very good for a first time event. It will be a bit better next year, I am sure.
F5RD: I enjoyed this contest, but the propagation was very bad. just 11 stations outside Europe. Six hours and dipole categories is good idea. Thanks to all who worked me.
F6FJE: A LOT OF ACTIVITY ON 20,15 AND 10M, BUT VERY QUIET ON 40 AND 80.
G4EMT: ONLY A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME AVAILABLE, HOPE TO HAVE MORE TIME ON THE NEXT CONTEST ..THANKS 73 JACK
GU0SUP: - 6 hours with a G5RV (half-size) An enjoybale contest, and the 6 hour classes make it more fun for of us who don't have the stamina to run for the full 24 hours. I had planned to do more, but with conditions as they were, a 6 hour entry seemed the best option for me.
GW4MVA: Thanks for the nice contest. Conditions not very good.
IV3IPS: Have had little time but can say of to be me really had a good time! See you in the next DL DX Contest RTTY - 73 de Stefano, IV3IPS

JH2BTM: This contest was in good condition, so that I could enjoy the wonderful contest.
JR3NZC: GOOD CONTEST
K1US: NEXT YEAR I HOPE TO HAVE MORE TIME FOR THIS INTERESTING CONTEST. VERY 73, JON K1US
K4GMH: Thanks to the sponsors of the DL-DX RTTY Contest. Also, thanks to those who get the pleasure of reviewing all the logs. And special thank to all who were kind enough to work me. Comments: Started on 20 meters and first QSO was with FO5PS - that sets an up-beat outlook for the rest of the contest. Along about 0600Z FK8GX called, another shot of adrenalin to carry through until end of the contest. 15 meters was okay although the signals were not as strong as they have been in the past couple of years. You had to work for just about every QSO on 15. However, 15 did stay open to the stronger Europe stations from the East Coast throughout the night. 10 meters was hit or miss as you had to be there when the conditions were favorable and the stations available. (I only made one QSO on 10 meters but did look for several DX Packet Cluster spotted stations.) 40 meters did okay, but not as much activity to make it worthwhile to stay on 40. 80 meters was reasonably quite for this time of year. Unfortunately, there was very little activity - you had to make the activity by asking folks to QSY from 40 to 80 meters. The nice level of activity, especially the Europeans, was a surprise for a first time contest. You have to anticipate the level of activity will increase next year which may compensate somewhat for the decrease in propagation. Again, thanks to the sponsors for getting this contest started.
K4WW: Very unique and creative format! Poor band conditions, along with major US holiday weekend, possibly contributed to lack of US activity?
K5DKH: Enjoyed the Contest. First contact was FO5PS and signals were up and down. Thanks to all who copied my call. Looking forward to the next one.
KF0OH: Had a great time from the "black hole" in the midwest region. Could only operate for about 3 hours due to personal committments.
KF2XF: Nice desgin for a contest makes much sense for us old age sleep needers
KH6GMP: ICOM 756Pro with Force12 C3S on a rooftop tower. Writelog contesting software. Lots of fun and happy to worked several EU stations especially the German calls. ALOHA de Gary KH6GMP Kailua-Kona Hawaii
KI5XP: What a great contest! The class B is a welcome addition!
KS0M: I was not going to spend very much time in this contest. But, I was having fun and stayed longer. Very good contest and I will be back next year. The bands were not good. Does 10 meters really exist ? 15 meters not any better. 40 meters was fair, but very much QRN. Highlite was very first call FO5PS.
LV5V: I ENJOY VERY MUCH THE POSSIBILTY TO DO A SHORT CONTEST ITS NOT EASY TO SPEND A FULL WEECKEND FOR A TEST MUCH ACTIVITY FOR THE NEW DL DX RTTY 1 HOPE BE AGN IN2004. ALL THE BEST FOR ALL ORGANIZERS BEST 73 JORGE
N6EU: I enjoyed this contest despite poor band conditions. This contest for me was essentially a single band single radio event. I hope conditions improve for the Fall Contests. Thanks to the sponsors and the stations I was able to work.
N7UVH: Fun contest.
OH2LZI: QRP TX with 5 W output
OK2SWD: Very good contest and perfect operators. Good CONDX on SA. See you next year friends.
ON4KGL: Propa was very bad saterday but ok sunday.Very nice contest. To next year.
ON4QX: Conditions very poor on saterday and got to work at night so working only 6 hours this time . Great fun and glad to hear the old boys again. CONTEST MANAGERS REPORT
The new DL-DX RTTY CONTEST was held first time over the weekend of 5th and 6th July 2003. The contest organizers were overwhelmed by the high level of participation and the number of 262 logs received. Thanks to all participants for making this new contest an immediate success. From the comments received it appears that the new 6 hour categories and those for use of limited aerials were especially appealing to many RTTY contesters. These were among the primary reasons and aims for the creation of this new contest. But there were also many entrants who did not take advantage of the 6 hour categories despite their operating times being less than 6 hours.
Propagation conditions were not really favourable for us but there was a good amount of fine DX available and workable. JT1BE, BX4AF, CE8SFG, DS2OQF, FK8GX, FO5PS, KH6GMP, KP4AWX, KL1SF, TI4DJ, VK3DBQ, VK6GOM, VR2BG and ZS1JY are just a few examples. About 35% of all QSOs were from stations outside of Europe. The majority of these were made by North-American stations, followed by Asia and South America. Detailed graphical statistics can be viewed at URL: http://dl-dx.de/html/statistics.html
We are very pleased to report that at least 99 DL stations took part in the contest. Other major contributions came from (at least) 162 W stations, 62 JA stations, 39 UA/UA9 stations, 34 SP stations and 29 I stations. A total of 77 countries were active in the contest. Except for Antarctica all continents were worked.
The 262 stations submitting logs entered the 5 different categories as follows: CATEGORY-A=86 CATEGORY-B=63 CATEGORY-C=43 CATEGORY-D=54 CATEGORY-E=3. 13 logs were received as checklogs. 114 stations used high power and 148 low power.
While the majority of logs were in correct Cabrillo format there were also many logs that gave us a variety of problems. Callsigns were missing in emails and even logs. At least two stations sent us ADIF resp. Writelog .WL files. Many of the non-Cabrillo logs were using strange date formats requiring a lot of manual editing before they could be converted into Cabrillo format. Some people sent logs sorted by bands instead of time. Specifying the entry category apparently was a major problem for many stations- we had to ask for clarification again and again. By all means read the rules and please follow the advice given many times. Several Cabrillo logs also needed manual editing by the log checkers. RSTs, both sent and received were missing, columns were not in the right place or order.
Log scoring and evaluation was done with a program developed by Walter, DL4RCK. The 262 logs received show a total of 703 different callsigns and of 41043 QSOs. 28491 QSOs representing 69.4% of the total were electronically cross checked. Overall an average error rate of 5.23% was found. There were: - 869 wrong exchange errors (serial numbers do not match) - 807 unique callsign errors (calls appearing in not more than 1 or 2 logs) - 325 not-in-log errors - 118 duplicate QSO errors - 25 wrong band errors (time and serial numbers match but not bands) resulting in a reduction of claimed scores. Contesters should draw their own conclusions from this. The organizers feel that more care is needed in logging.
Altogether we are proud of having completed all log checking and evaluating within one month and of being able to publish results just two months after the contest (well almost). Certificates will be sent to the first ten stations in each category. The results listings and this report will be sent to all entrants by email.
The 2004 DL-DX RTTY Contest will be held again on the first full weekend of July, -
3 July 1100 UTC to 4 July 1059 UTC.
There will be no major changes to the rules. As a trial, PSK31 and PSK63 will be added to the modes. Logging requirements will be more strict. For details see http://dl-dx.de/html/rules.html
This report is compiled for the information of all stations who took part in the DL-DX RTTY contest whether they sent in a log or not. It can be used or distributed in any way, such as magazine, Internet pages etc. as long as credit is given to "DL-DX RTTY Contest Group".
73 to all of you, thanks for participating and cuagn in 2004.
Goetz, DJ3IW for the DL-DX RTTY Contest Group.
